July 26, 2010 – Guest: Michael W. Lynch – The Life & Career of Michael W. Lynch – “Visions of a Changing World and The Profound Opportunities it Holds”

Listen/view program. Michael W. Lynch was born in Pennsylvania in 1959 living in Cleveland Ohio until the age of ten. As a young boy, he was a voracious reader and alongside athletics very intrigued with News in print and on television.  He was fascinated with Business success stories and Entrepreneurial ventures and believed in these pursuits as the American Way; anything ventured with determination breeds success.  These were attributes he dreamed to aid him in his adult pathway to purchase companies and ultimately achieve success. He later graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, WI, with a BA Double major in Political Science and  Economics.  He was recruited onto the John Glenn’s Presidential campaign and traveled with Astronaut John Glenn in what became a prestigious opportunity and life experience. He went on to work in real estate at Coldwell Banker in Chicago earning success after which he became president at Michigan Avenue Partners completing over $1 Billion in aquistions of distressed real estate. In 1991 he married his wife Kimberlee and later had two daughters Shannon and Paige. He subsequenly purchased Michigan Avenue Partners before establshing McCook Metal’s Group. In 1998, he acquired the Scottsboro, Alabama plant Aluminum Rolling Plant from the Canadian mining and minerals company, Noranda. In 1999 after Alcoa made its offer to purchase Reynolds Metals (Lynchl’s primary metals plants supplier) he with his team sued Alcoa in Federal Court in Washington, DC on antitrust to preserve his companies and his 2000 employees jobs. The following year his son Shane was born. In 2000, he won the anti-trust case in the EU, in Brussels. Alcoa was forced to sell him the Longview Smelter, in Longview Washington. Lynch closed on the acquisition in January 2001. With this acquisition, Michigan Avenue Partners, Inc was to become the 27th largest privately held company in Chicago. He was then 39 years old. In August 2001, his lender, GE Capital sue Michael & his partners on a alleged fraud compliant in Federal Court. Mr. Lynch was removed as Chairman of McCook Metals on September 7th, 2001. A year later he won the case against GE Capital. McCook assets were sold to a French company Pechiney who in turn sold the assets to Alcoa. The McCook plant was eventually shut down. In 2002, upon reviewing evidence that his on law firm conspired with GE to take his companies away, he sued Seyfarth Shaw for $226 million dollars in damage.

  1. Having worked very closely with Mr.Lynch the past four years, I have known him to be a Christian man of high moral fiber, integrity, and honesty. He is a visionary with exceptional entrepeneural skills who cares deeply about his country, our government, its workers, including the overall welfare of the global populace.

His undying energy and enthusiasm as a patriot and dilligent business leader, amplifies the grave concern I’ve had regarding the demise of his stewardship of McCook Metals, LLC in Chicago as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer and his current station in life. .

We wish him continued success on his path as a global business leader and pray for the welfare of his family around him. A true family man in every respect, he is a model business leader for others to emulate.

I found it ironic that your interview with Michael Lynch aired at the same time Mr. Lynch sat in a cell in Cook County jail. David, do some homework on this visonary and the next time you speak with him ask him about a company called Duraco Products(Streamwood, IL) and the success he achieved with that company and its 200 workers.

    Mr. Collins,

The reason Mr. Lynch is currently in jail has nothing to do with his case at Duraco that was misreported in the Chicago Sun-Times. His case and the reasons for jail time for attempting to help expose judicial corruption can be found on the pages of our website at:

    http://www.airline-whistleblowers.org/Mr__Lynch_in_Jail_.html

Atlanta SEC office is currently investigating these allegations. Mr. Gibbons did, in fact, do his homework, as have others. Thanks so much, David, for your honesty.

    Thank you,

Being a former worker at Duraco in Streamwood,The Sun-Times DID NOT misreport anything that was in there article. A Christian man, maybe outside of workplace inside he is a Theif that stole wages, payroll deductions and caused workers to go to jail, forecloue on houses, not pay bills to vendors. The reason Duraco closed it was forecloused on because owners did not pay the rent.they took the money and ran. Interesting on how everything Lynch touches goes into bankruptcy, Duraco, McCook and it is always someone elses fault. He talks about corruption, look in the mirror. The time he spent in Cook County Jail was not long enough,I know several people that would take up a collection to keep him in jail and have Bubba visit late night

He ruined the lives of over 900 people at the Reynolds plant in Longview Washington in order to cash in on the Enron power scandal. Being he’s a good Christian man, I wonder what Jesus would say about that!

absolutely right. he left longview with 220 million of our dollars after hoodwinking so many of our local and state officials, and devastated 1000 employees lives and futures. what a crook. special place for that kind of person in the hereafter. as mitt romney would say, “he harvested a corporation”.

Michael Lynch and his wife, Kimberlee Lynch are theives .

Michael Lynch and family live a continued life of luxury with the money stolen from McCook Metals, Great Lakes Processing, Longview Aluminum, Duraco and many other companies.

It is only a matter of time before he forces another company into bankruptcy. And our wonderful justice system allows this man to do it again, and again, and again.

being a former employee of duraco products for almost 23 years how about looking into the former president of duraco john m licht on what happend to all our company stock before the lynch brothers took over? i lost over 83,000 dollars or more in stock. i still am waiting for my last check from when i quit on 9/15/08. i hope i get some justice out of all this. i lost my townhouse then my apartment 2 years ago because i could not pay my rent. between licht and lynch we all got screwed and they threw us all under the bus. i was on unemployment for almost 2 years before i got a job working part-time for fedex in 2010 were i am still working. all of us need some justice in all of this. i am not any younger. i will be 63 in a few short weeks. we worked to hard to long. lets have justice soon. michael r moloney

I own a staffing company that serviced Duraco during the Lynch’s time as owners. On top of what the people were not paid for I too lost $60,000 in wages to employees we had working there but I still paid my employees.
The working conditions were the worse I have ever seen, where he showed me my people would be working was not rue but instead had them working in a section I would say that was shut down.
After recieving phone calls of no toilet paper and no heat, I removed my employees from working their.

What Kevin Lynch said to me…. all these people are pieces of s–t, when in fact the worst piece of S–t I ever met and did business with was the Lynch Bros.

Just a matter of time before someone puts them both in a trunk of a car.

I was also one of the workers at a Lynch owned plant in Longview, WA.
We all knew this arrangement with McCook was not going to end well. The plant was purchased with money from the Bonneville Power Administration as part of the power by back in 2001. This was the only way he could by it because he no longer could procure credit from legitimate lenders. We were forced to collect unemployment during the 15 month shutdown period while still remaining employees. I told anyone who would listen that he would pocket what money he could from the power by back deal and then leave us high and dry. That is exactly what happened. He failed to pay the last 3 months of the agreement and layed everyone off. We were left with a depleted unemployment account, no insurance, and for the salaried (myself included) no severance that was promised to us by Reynolds. After much prodding from our lawmakers ALCOA finally paid the severance 6 months later. Lynch pocket millions from this deal, has never paid any of it back. As far as being a devout christian, what do you think of someone who would repeatedly from f-bombs at staff meetings in front both male and females. He has been voted the most hated man in Cowlitz County. I am not sure he deserves that much respect.
